Stuck in the issue when importing Canon EOS C700 MXF videos into Premiere Pro(CC, CS6, CS5) for editing? If so, simply follow this simple guide to achieve your goal effortlessly.
Canon just announced the EOS C700, a 4K UHD digital video camera for professional use. The new compact Canon XC15 enables capturing 4K UHD 3840×2160 4:2:2 8-bit recording at up to 305Mbps with the XF-AVC Intra codec. FHD 1920×1080 4:2:2 8-bit video is recorded to SD cards with XF-AVC Log GOP as well. While enjoying the stunning HD image quality, many folks are having problems when importing Canon EOS C700 files to Premiere Pro. If you’re in such a situation, just go through this article, which mainly shows you how to get the Canon EOS C700 4K/1080P recordings and Adobe Premiere Pro to work beautifully.
Why you can’t sccessfully ingest the recorded XF-AVC footage from Canon EOS C700 to Premiere Pro? Actually, the reason is simple. The XF-AVC is a new codec, which is not supported by Adobe editing software. Although Canon provides Canon XF Utility of XF-AVC, this does not work all the time; we are not able to import or transcode the files for use in Premiere Pro as we expect.
All-in-one video solution to solve the incompatible issue is to use third-party software to convert the videos from the Canon EOS C700 to a more editing-friendly format, such a Premiere ProPro’s H.264. I tried a few converters that didn’t work… Compressor of course didn’t work, Wondersoft Video Converter Ultimate my usual goto converter didn’t work… it converted audio but not video. The one that worked for me is Acrok MXF Converter for Mac (compatible with my new macOS Sierra). The program can easily import and convert Canon EOS C700 .mxf to H.264 encoded MOV files which seamlessly fit Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5.
